Just know that the power of positive thinking is real. But how do you become a better thinker? But don’t stop there. Your goal should be more productive, creative, and smart thinking, too.
Honestly, I am not a positive person by nature. I can worry with the best of them. And, if that’s not enough, I am cautious and skeptical. However, I am a dreamer who is open to learning. So thank goodness, becoming a more positive thinker is something you can learn.
#1 Understand What You’re Really Striving For: What Thinking Positive Really Means for You
Let’s get started, shall we? Because you cannot properly take advantage of positive thinking techniques and tips without understanding the concept itself. So, what does it mean to be a positive thinker? Positive thinking is associated with positive people for a reason. For those of us not blessed with good thoughts, we can be our own worse enemy.
I read this insightful article on LifeHack called the 15 Differences Between Positive People and Negative People. The author, Jason Sau, wrote the following:
"Positive people have effective self-talk. They are aware of the story they tell themselves and don’t allow their thoughts to discourage them. Additionally, they are realistic with their expectations. Positive people don’t feed themselves lies about their weaknesses or how difficult the situation is. Instead, they tell themselves what they need to do to succeed. Negative people are their own worst enemy. They struggle to see the bright side of anything, even if they are successful. They are also masterful at focusing on all the negative aspects, and diminishing their confidence." Fortunately, we can learn a lot from positive people. Mostly, how they view and approach life. The beauty of it happier people provide the path we need to follow. We are taking the lessons and turning them into positive thinking techniques and tips.
#2. Be Realistic: A Big Mistake You Do Not Want Make
So here’s the thing. You’ve developed thought patterns over time. And, your experiences love to weigh in. What this means is that your current way of thinking is now a habit. Hence, you need to accept the fact that positive thinking will take time. Luckily, this is good news, because you want the changes you are seeking to stick.
I believe you will need to do the following as you practice positive thinking tips and techniques:
- Make the commitment and strengthen your resolve
- Know you will have to put in the effort
- Learn to be discipline
- Understand that persistent is key
- Focus on Consistency
- Find Patience
Your secret strategy for success are three simple tips you should not underestimate:
- Be in it for the long haul (it’s all about long-term gains with twists and turns on your way to success).
- Establish a goal, write down your tasks, and then take small actions every day.
- Be curious, heighten awareness, celebrate, and learn during the journey.
Just know that when you take a realistic and productive approach, you save yourself excessive stress along the way. Please note that most people fail because they try to do everything at once. Or, they try to gain results too fast. The fact is, some things cannot be rush. And, this is one of those things.
#3. Start Smart: Begin With One Positive Thinking Technique
Do you ever get the feeling that too much choice isn’t always a good thing? As it stands, you can find lots of information on positive thinking tips and techniques. And, you can even try to do them all. But, your goal is to build a winning mindset that will carry you through any challenge, as well as help you better appreciate your successes.
So, do yourself a favor and start with only one. Your goal is to get off to a great start by building momentum.
A. Technique 1: Plant a positive thought seed.
Before you get out of bed every morning, think of one positive thing you are looking forward to. Now, nobody is saying it has to be a huge grand gesture or accomplishment. For me, I always look forward to my morning shower because I enjoy the feel of the water rejuvenating me in preparation for my day. You see, I plant a seed of positive thinking to get me started.
B. Tip 2: Be Grateful
Showing appreciation is not easy for everyone. And, if you tend to thing negative, this may seem stupid. After all, you’re trying to change your life so you can be grateful, right? But see, that’s the point. Regardless of what is going on with you, I guarantee you that there is somebody, somewhere who would appreciate something about your life.
I learned to be thankful the hard way. But, I learned. And I am thrilled that I did! Now, one of my FAVORITE positive thinking techniques is writing in my gratitude journal every morning. And, so that you know, I only acknowledge three simple things each day. Some days, I write, I’m grateful to recover from a cold. Or, I’m appreciative of a terrific conversation I had with my son. I also developed a pretty cool mindset technique that had improved my ability to solve problems or challenges better.
C. Technique 3: Visualize Yourself in a Positive Way or Situation
I’ll be honest, visualization and mindfulness are hard for me. Therefore, I had to create a way to make this technique more interesting. So, I went to my favorite stress reliever and combined gratitude.
What is my preferred relaxation practice, you may wonder? I love music. It touches my emotions deeply. So, I use instrumental versions of songs for sitting back, relaxing and visualizing good things happening in my life.
I focus on my appearance, my demeanor, and my reactions. I see myself accomplishing a goal. And, it is all the sweeter, because the music is infusing powerful emotions to back it up.
Furthermore, the icing on the cake is my appreciation for what I hear. When you can only hear out of one ear, it’s easy to be thankful for the fantastic gift of sound.
Your Goal is to Take Action Right Now
Because taking action is the most crucial step, I want you to get started this very second. Yes. You heard me. I’m asking for sixty seconds of your time. So now I ask you. What is one thing you appreciate about yourself? Tell me. If you want, place your response in the comments. If not, start your own What I Appreciate About Myself Journal. Every time you find something else to appreciate about yourself, put it in your journal. By the way, this is another positive thinking technique and tip.
I’m excited for you because better thinking and good things are in your future.
